Mixed Media
When I was reading the story of the Snow Queen, in the book “The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen” by Taschen, I came upon a small drawing of Gerda in the flower garden.
The caption read: “Gerda was led into the flower garden. How fragrant and lovely it was! Every known flower of every season was there in full bloom.” Lovely! There was my next idea! I proceeded to produce my own mixed media version of Gerda in the Garden. My process involved drawing the girl and then copying her to a sheet of rice paper that had been painted with a light naphtol red glaze. Then I painted her in, cut her out, and pasted her on the cradle board. The flowers are made from leftover papers from“Paper Trails”. The buttons and beads are from my collection of “fun” stuff for mixed media. |
